Huron County Council has approved the work for a new walk-in refrigerator for Huronlea Home for the Aged.
Huronlea had been looking for project bids to replace the current 31-year-old walk-in fridge/freezer, and has accepted a bid for $71,550.
The average life expectancy for a walk-in unit is about 15-20 years, so the home will be working with Best Cooling Systems to complete the work.
Since the existing unit was well beyond its lifespan, it’s costing Huronlea more in repairs and maintenance than it would cost for a replacement.
The existing unit also experienced a breakdown this year.
The new walk-in fridge/freezer would not only be more cost effective, but the new unit would also be more energy-efficient.
