The Chatsworth Agricultural Society is hoping to get underway with the construction of a new community pavilion.
So far, the group has been able to fundraise $200,000 of their $260,000 goal for the new pavilion.
Past president for the Agricultural Society, and Pavilion board member Sharrie Brick says that they’re just waiting on permits so they can get started on construction this fall, with the facility available for use in the spring of 2025.
“We’re really looking forward to having some shelter, have a kitchen that we can use, and the washrooms available to us, and the same for our Christmas in the Village event that’s coming up and we’re looking forward to the community at large to be able to use this building, to be able to have picnics, gatherings, to sit and have a cup of coffee.”
She says that the society has been receiving good feedback and words of support from everyone.
“Community feedback for the pavilion has been absolutely incredible. We’ve had great financial support, great verbal support, the other hub committee group that’s working away at getting something going at the old arena site has been most helpful, as has been the municipality,” she says. “We’re actually quite overwhelmed by the support that we’ve been given.”
The new pavilion is being constructed on the site of the community’s former arena, which closed in 2017 due to structural issues, and was then demolished in 2019.
Brick says that the pavilion will be a new gathering place for community groups, and for residents at large.
“We hope that when the permits come through that we will be able to get started this fall. We would love to have completion by the spring so that we can host events there, and there is a large car show that happens in Chatsworth during the summer, and would be wonderful to be able to have this building to use for that.”
The pavilion, which will take up 3200 square feet, will include washrooms and a kitchen to help host events.
Chatsworth Council will be discussing the new pavilion during their November 6th meeting.
