Huron County staff is going to be looking into how best alleviate safety issues at Mayne Corners.
In a report presented to council, it was shared that despite the implementation of red lights and traffic signs, there are still issues with the intersection at Mayne Corners, which is on the border of Huron and Perth Counties.
The intersection involves county road 34 (Perth Road 178), which serves as a boundary with Perth County, and Huron County Road 30 (Fordwich Line) to the north, which transitions into Perth County Line 88 south of the intersection.
Due to the safety concerns at the intersection, previous measures have been put in place. Prior to 2009, the four-way amber/red flashing warning lights were installed, oversized stop signs were put up in 2014, flashing LED stop lights were added in December 2020, and reflective strips were put in place above the stop signs in October 2023.
Council directed staff to consult with Perth County to come to a viable solution, and asked county staff to perhaps engage Perth County to cover the cost of further measures.
