A 56 year old from Tiny Township has been arrested and charged by members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment. after investigations were concluded into two recent unlawful vehicle entry and thefts.
Near the noon hour on October 7th a Brock Street, Penetanguishene resident contacted the OPP Communication Centre after it was noticed that a wallet containing credit cards and other personal property were taken by an unknown person from an unlocked vehicle overnight. Credit card companies reported multiple uses of the card at numerous local retail stores to the victim..
In the morning of October 7th the owner of an unlocked vehicle parked in a Dufferin Street parking lot contacted the OPP Communication Centre reporting theft of personal property after the victim was notified by financial institutions of multiple credit card charges.
An investigation into the thefts was undertaken by detachment members and through various investigative techniques, the accused was arrested on Main Street, Penetanguishene at approximately 12:51 p.m. October 7, 2024 and charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences.
- Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle (two counts)
- Use of Credit Card (three counts)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (three counts)
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
The accused was held in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
