The Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) is highlighting energy-related initiatives with it’s first Clean Energy Frontier Conference.
NII President and CEO Jessica Linthorne says the event was held at the NII Advanced Technology Campus in Tiverton from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1.
“We were really looking forward to bringing information forward about the clean energy sector, including medical isotopes and all of the opportunities that we see ahead of us for generations to come across the Bruce, Grey and Huron region,” says Linthorne.
She says the event also touched on workforce development, including projected growth for clean energy jobs, as well as anticipated economic development with medical isotopes.
“We also heard from regional training partners and how we will be working together taking a collaborative approach to develop the next generation of workforce,” says Linthorne. “It’s an exciting opportunity ahead of us when we think about clean energy. Certainly working closely with Bruce Power as they continue the major component replacement project, but then potential new nuclear is really exciting for us as well.”
Linthorne says the event welcomed local leaders, industry partners, municipal officials, as well as Minister of Rural Affairs and MPP for Huron-Bruce Lisa Thompson.
This is a newly expanded two-day event, which built upon the previous one-day Clean Energy Frontier Summit.
“Really to help inform and bring as much content forward as we can to support our municipal elected officials, our other local leaders and are working closely with industry partners as well,” says Linthorne.
She says they are excited to host the conference again next year.
