The Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has confirmed the deaths of two people in a workplace incident in Kilsyth.
At around 12:10 pm on Thursday, October 3rd, a scaffold collapsed inside a silo, resulting in two workers dying.
The emergency response to the incident led to a road closure on Grey Road 5 between Sideroad 5 and Sideroad 7, near Mennonite Corners.
An independent source informed Bayshore News that the two contractors who died were from Stratford, and had built silos for their livelihoods.
The source also said that three other workers needed assistance from first responders after becoming trapped 130 feet (approximately 40 metres) above the ground for 3 hours.
The MLITSD says that the project owner and constructor is Sharedon Farms, and were under contract with Wilhelm Concrete.
The Ministry also extended condolences to the victims’ families.
In an official statement, the MLITSD says one requirement has been issued to the constructor, Sharedon Farms, while eight requirements have been issued to the employer, Wilhelm Concrete/634573 Ontario Limited.
Two inspectors from the Ministry have been assigned to the ongoing investigation, and is unable to release any further details.
