The Bruce Grey Music Hall of Fame is holding its annual induction ceremony this weekend, where five new artists will be welcomed.
One of the Founding Directors Arnie Clark says the soldout event will be held at the Owen Sound Legion on Sunday.
He says they received 15 applications this year to join the Music Hall of Fame.
“It comes right down to a voting process. We have selected five for this year, but the remaining ones will be on the docket for next year,” says Clark.
He says the inductees this year includes Sue Murdoch, who is a director of the Music Hall of Fame and has a broad musical history of performing both at home and internationally.
Gord Cottrill will also be inducted this weekend after having an extensive music career of playing rock and roll before moving to country and blues.
Clark says Neil Raynsford, who is being recognized posthumously, was a popular drummer and played with many bands over the years.
The band the Dimensions from Walkerton is also joining the Music Hall of Fame. The band played several large venues over its decades of performances.
“Two of the original members will be entertaining with us on Sunday,” says Clark.
The fifth inductee is Peter Irwin who Clark says is a well-known Elvis tribute artist and has won several competitions.
“They are all, I would say, entertainment legends in their own right. They have all got their history and they are all well-known. We look at the history of these entertainers and what they have accomplished and that is why they have been selected this time around,” says Clark.
He adds the induction ceremony is an important event to recognize local history.
“We are quite overwhelmed by the response. The public have not forgotten about the Music Hall of Fame, that’s for sure,” says Clark. “We have got a great new home with the Owen Sound Legion and we can’t be more pleased.”
