Walkerton’s new dental clinic is getting ready to start welcoming patients after a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday.
Grey Bruce Public Health will be providing oral health services to qualifying seniors, children, and youth from low-income households in southern Grey-Bruce.
The 1,380-square-foot clinic will be offering a range of dental services, including check-ups, preventative care, and treatments for patients who are enrolled in the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program and Healthy Smiles Ontario.
Procedures provided include cleanings, fillings, scaling, tooth extraction, and urgent care.
The accessible facility has operatories, as well as X-ray, consultation rooms, sterilization, charting, and a reception area for patients.
The clinic, which is at 200 McNab St. in Walkerton, will start seeing patients on Tuesday, September 10th.
Construction started back in March 2024 and was mostly completed by late July.
Prior to the construction of its new brick-and-mortar clinic in Walkerton, Grey Bruce Public Health had previously run a temporary clinic, which was set up and dismantled each clinic day at a housing complex owned by Bruce County.
Grey Bruce Public Health’s Oral Health Team also provides dental services at its two permanent clinics in Owen Sound and Markdale.
The total cost of the new clinic is $1 million, with funding provided by the Ministry of Health as part of an Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program initiative.
Some funding received from the provincial government also went toward upgrading the Owen Sound and Markdale clinics.
In addition to dental services, the new clinic will be used by GBPH’s Sexual Health and Vaccine Preventable Diseases teams to provide services in southern Bruce County.
