Grey Bruce OPP say a South Bruce Peninsula resident is facing a slew of charges following a house fire in the Wiarton area.
Police say on Aug. 24 at 6:12 a.m., officers and the South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department responded to a house fire on Berford Street in Georgian Bluffs. (Berford Street is Wiarton’s main street, and turns into Highway 6. One side of the street is actually in Georgian Bluffs township).
The residents of the home woke up to the fire alarm and noticed smoke from the basement.
OPP say the South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department was able to extinguish the blaze and the Intertownship Fire Department assisted with the investigation.
The investigation discovered that the accused was seen on Bruce Street in Hepworth in South Bruce Peninsula at 6 a.m. that morning near a vehicle with incendiary material.
As a result, the 65-year-old accused is facing uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, breaking and entering, two counts of arson with disregard for human life, two counts of possession of incendiary materials, two counts of mischief under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and assault with a weapon.
The accused was held pending a bail hearing in Owen Sound.
