Northern Bruce Peninsula is awarding over $600,000 in contracts for electrical work at the harbours in Tobermory and Lion’s Head.
Council approved the tenders to Clark Multi-Trade during a meeting on July 22.
The work will include upgrading the existing service, modify and replace various cables, and install new equipment, which will result in pavement getting dug up.
This comes after a Parks and Facilities report was presented to council last August detailing the needed electrical upgrades for the harbours.
Earlier this year in February, council gave pre-budget approval for the project design and tendering.
About 14 plan takers registered for the projects, but ultimately came down to three companies. Clark Multi-Trade was the least expensive.
Hydro One plan approval for the project is expected to be received next month. Any delays may result in the project being carried over to 2025.
Parks and Facilities Manager Mark Coleman says, “we just want to be project shovel ready in the event Hydro One does approve and does provide a schedule for upgrading the services. We have a limited construction window for both harbours. Kind of hard to do the work when the boats are in dry dock in the early spring and late fall and through the winter. This is kind of a mid-summer and part of the shoulder season construction work window.”
