Last week members of the Collingwood Detachment Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a Collingwood residence and seized a large quantity of fentanyl and charged four (4) people with drug trafficking offences.
In May and June 2024, Collingwood Detachment CSCU initiated a drug trafficking investigation into two parties staying in an RV at numerous locations and residences in the Collingwood area.
Acting on information learned during the investigation, on July 5, 2024 Collingwood CSCU executed a search warrant on the RV and a residence on Leslie Street in Collingwood. Police located 3 people inside the RV, who were arrested without incident. A search of the RV yielded over 60 grams of Fentanyl worth as estimated $9,500 and other evidence related to drug trafficking.
As a result of the investigation, four adults have been charged with Drug trafficking offences and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood at a future date.
A 41 year old from Collingwood has been charged with:
· Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose Trafficking Opioid other than Heroin – 5(2) CDSA
· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – 355(b) CC
· Possession of An Identity Document – 56.1 CC
A 48 year old from Collingwood has been charged with:
· Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose Trafficking Opioid other than Heroin – 5(2) CDSA
A 51 year old from Sturgeon Falls has been charged with:
· Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose Trafficking Opioid other than Heroin – 5(2) CDSA
A 43 year old from Collingwood has been charged with:
· Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose Trafficking Opioid other than Heroin – 5(2) CDSA
· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – 355(b) CC
· Possession of An Identity Document – 56.1 CC
These arrests occurred in the wake of numerous complaints of fentanyl overdoses where OPP and other emergency services needed to administer naloxone to save those individuals.
