Grey County council has approved a sponsorship agreement for the theatre at Grey Roots Museum and Archives, just outside Owen Sound.
Wheildon Investments Inc will contribute $50,000 to Grey Roots over the next five years and the theatre will be known as the Thomas Wheildon Theatre through 2034.
Council also heard a staff report Thursday, outlining a three-year improvement plan for the theatre.
A staff report presented to council Thursday says consultants Chevalier Thurling Inc. identified some improvements that are considered the most critical.
They laid out how to do the work in phases. Some top priorities include replacing an obsolete projector, improving stage lighting, reducing fan noise in the control booth.
The report says, “Once complete, the theatre upgrades will result in improved stage lighting, wider applications for audio and lighting control, crisper and brighter projections, and interactive video conferencing and event capability, among other improvements.”
