Roundabout approved along Dashwood Road and Airport Line.
Huron County Council was able to see some design options for a proposed roundabout at County Road 83/Airport Line.
In a report from Public Works, council was able to see options for either a single-lane roundabout at the intersection, as well as a two-lane option.
A representative from BM Ross explained that it would be advantageous for council to support the two-lane option.
While a single-lane option would be suitable for the immediate future, council felt that there would need to be a second lane added in the future, so it made sense to have a two-lane roundabout built now.
BM Ross showed an option for a two-lane circle with slight modifications that would ensure that approaches were as safe as possible for all types of vehicles, including large transport trucks and even larger farming equipment.
In order to have a two-lane roundabout built, small tracts of land near the intersection would have to be leased by the county to help crews complete the work with minimal disruption to traffic flow.
With some small modifications to the design to account for the approaches, the two-lane roundabout would be centred at the same spot as the current intersection.
Construction is expected to begin in 2025.
