Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers was able to present an award for voluntarism to a community member from Saugeen Shores.
Vicki Tomori, who has been a dedicated member of the Marine Heritage Society since 1997 has been given the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism.
The award is given by the province’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport.
Tomori gave credit to the other volunteers of the MHS, saying that as a team, they were able to restore the Chantry Island Lighthouse Keeper’s home, hold ongoing tours of the tower, and organize the annual Marine Heritage Festival.
She’s the MHS’s longest-serving original member still actively involved in daily activities for the volunteer group.
The award was named for journalist and community advocate June Callwood.
