The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is receiving a community grant of $15,000 to support its financial assistance program.
The grant came from the James Goreski Private Foundation, created in memory of James Goreski, who passed away in June 2017 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
The YMCA says the foundation aims to improve the lives of residents in the region by providing resources to groups and organizations committed to promoting health and assisting those who suffer from health-related issues.
Goreski himself was a long-time advocate for community support and health initiatives.
The funding is being allocated specifically to the YMCA Strong Community Fund, which makes sure everyone has the chance to participate in YMCA activities regardless of their financial situation.
Last year, the YMCA says it provided financial assistance to 984 people, helping them access programs like swimming lessons, summer camps, and fitness classes.
Manger of Fund Development April Robinson says, “this generous grant from the James Goreski Private Foundation will help us continue to provide critical services to our community, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent individuals and families from access the resources they need to thrive.”
