Meaford is planning on holding a parade this weekend as part of the municipality’s 150 anniversary celebrations.
Deputy Mayor and chair of the celebrations Shirley Keaveney says the parade on Saturday will begin at 1 p.m. at the old high school parking lot. It will then travel down St. Vincent Street and end at the harbour.
“We have got a great turnout of floats, I hear a secret that it might be even more than the Scarecrow Parade had last year. We have got marching bands, and we will have the parade being led by our local town crier,” says Keaveney.
She says once the hour-long parade arrives at the harbour pavilion, there will be festivities running from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., which will feature a number of games, activities, food, and music. Additionally, there will be special Meaford 150 merchandise available for sale.
“It is just so special to see how the community has evolved and there has been a great deal of effort put into recognizing and appreciating our history,” says Keaveney.
She says they are expecting a large turnout for the parade and event at the harbour.
Meaford 150 festivities began earlier this year with kickoff celebrations at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre.
She adds the celebrations will continue all year with some of the municipality’s famous events, including the Scarecrow Invasion, being given a Meaford 150 spin.
