Some traffic calming measures are set to be taken on Silver Lake Road in Sauble Beach.
South Bruce Peninsula Council has been looking at the issue of increased traffic and speeding on the road in the south end of Sauble Beach, and some community members have been asking for traffic calming changes. Last fall, they made a presentation to council about the issue.
On Tuesday, staff outlined recommended calming measures that include line painting, designating a community safety zone and reducing the speed limit to 50km/h on a stretch of the road.
Council supported staff recommendations. There will be bylaws that will come to council in the near future for formal approval.
The goal is to get some of those measures in place before July, while other measures, like purchasing flashing speed signs and line painting may take longer.
OPP have also been stepping up enforcement on the road.
Mayor Jay Kirkland noted during Tuesday’s council meeting, “So we will see some measures before the end of the month,” adding, it might not be all four measures right away, “But we will see things start to happen there.”
