A Hanover police officer was bitten by a dog while making an arrest after a call about a suspicious vehicle.
Police Chief Chris Knoll says in a release, on May 20th at 7 p.m. a Hanover resident reported a suspicious person parked in a black Dodge Caravan in a residential neighbourhood in the southwest corner of Hanover.
The resident reported their interactions with the male driver to police who determined the vehicle was reported
stolen from Grey Highlands.
Shortly thereafter, police located the vehicle parked on 7th Street near the Hanover Lawn Bowling Club with a male suspect inside the vehicle along with what police describe as four aggressive Bullmastiff dogs.
When police tried to arrest the suspect, they say he resisted and during the struggle one of the dogs reportedly bit the arresting officer in the shoulder.
The suspect was eventually subdued and taken into custody. The four dogs in the vehicle were turned over to animal control in Owen Sound.
Knoll says the Bullmastiff that bit the officer has been placed into quarantine by the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit.
The injured officer was treated and later released from the Hanover and District Hospital with minor injuries.
Hanover Police have charged a 20-year-old man of Toronto with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and resisting arrest. He was later released from custody with a court date in Walkerton.
