Northern Bruce Peninsula is amending its Short-term Accommodation (STA) Licensing Program to reduce the cap from 700 to 500.
Council approved lowering the cap of STA’s as well as expanding the program into rural and commercial zones during a meeting on May 13.
This comes after council first directed Committee and Licensing Coordinator Lindsay Forbes in December to report back to council on the expansion of the program and reducing the cap.
Council subsequently held off on making adjustments to the program in February.
Then in March, council put the discussion on its community engagement website Let’s Talk NBP for 30 days to hear from residents.
During this comment period, a report from Forbes says 19 responses were received, which showed strong support to expand the program into rural and commercial zones. The cap reduction, however, showed a lack of public support.
Forbes says a by-law to bring this amendment into effect will make its way back to council for approval in June.
