Bruce Power’s President and CEO is retiring this summer.
Mike Rencheck, who has been with the company for eight years and in the industry for almost 42, is set to leave his position from the energy company on June 30.
“Everyone reaches that point in their career where they are starting to feel the signs of age catching up with them and they start to look forward to maybe some other things afterwards,” says Rencheck. “It’s been a great family decision for us, we love the area and will likely stick around here and do some traveling for sure and reconnect with family and friends.”
While stepping back from this role, he will continue to support Bruce Power as Executive Vice-Chair and operate as a senior advisor to the company and industry. He will also continue on as Chair of the Board of the World Association of Nuclear Operators Atlanta Centre.
“For continuity for the next generation of leaders here, if there are questions or they need advice on things, I will be available to make sure we are answering those and helping with governance and oversight issues,” says Rencheck.
To fill Rencheck’s role, Eric Chassard has been promoted to the position and will officially start July 1. He joined the company in 2019 as the Executive Vice-President of Projects and Engineering and has led the delivery of the life extension program.
“He is a seasoned industry executive,” says Rencheck. “He has overseen massive construction projects in his career and has also led operations of facilities. He brings with him a full suite of capabilities that would enable him to lead Bruce Power through this period of life extension and really sets the stage well for being able to move forward with Bruce C in terms of defining a construction program should we get to that point of making those decisions.”
He says the company has a bright future as it continues to provide 30 per cent of Ontario’s electricity as well as produce medical isotopes.
