Grey Highlands is going after some provincial funding to help with a reconstruction project in Markdale.
Council approved partnering with GrantMatch to prepare an application to the Ministry of Infrastructure’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund for the Brackenbury Street and Lawler Drive reconstruction project during a meeting on Feb. 21.
The fund assists municipalities reach their housing targets, and can help with projects ranging from rehabilitation, repair, reconstruction, or the expansion of water sanitary and stormwater infrastructure.
A report from Environmental Compliance Specialist Jenn Eagan says staff have looked at on-going projects to receive funding, including the Alice Street reconstruction project, the Markdale Lagoon environmental assessment, upgrades to the Amik Lagoon, and the Brackenbury Street and Lawler Drive reconstruction project.
The $8.1 million project to reconstruct Brackenbury Street and Lawler Drive could see 73 per cent of the total project costs covered by the grant if successful, with the municipality needing to cover the remaining $2.1 million.
GrantMatch would also be paid $348,802 if the municipality receives the grant.
The grant opened up on Jan. 29.
