OPP have filed fraud charges against a suspect in a years long investigation.
Police say numerous complaints were received in 2022 and 2023 against an individual claiming to operate construction, renovation, and landscaping businesses.
Reports say complaints came from Central Huron, North Huron, Goderich, South Huron, and Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, where the suspect would pay for contracting work in advance, and little to no work would be completed before the suspect ceased communication.
Total monetary losses reported by the complainants exceeds $74 thousand, police say.
Comments posted on Reddit have warned about a scammer in Huron County for months, with many users claiming they lost thousands of dollars.
A 30 year old Goderich man has been charged with:
- Fraud Under $5,000 – (five counts)
- Fraud Over $5,000 – (six counts)
The accused is scheduled to appear in Goderich court March 11th to answer to the charges.
