Two local organizations are hoping that Bruce County will be the setting for the 2026 International Plowing Match.
The event will be hosted by the Bruce County Plowmen’s Association and the Ontario Plowmen’s Association.
Allison Pepper, the Director of the International Plowing Match and the Bruce County Queen of the Furrow in 2019 made a presentation to council on Thursday along with Tom Evans, President of the Bruce County Plowmen’s Association.
They addressed council hoping to get an endorsement to host the 2026 event.
The proposed location is about 800 acres just west of Walkerton supplied by Lang Farms.
The International Plowing Match is held annually in Ontario and is North America’s largest outdoor agricultural and rural expo.
One IPM tradition that will also be taking place has been a part of the match since 1960: the Queen of the Furrow.
Prior winners from Bruce County are:
Dawn Brunton, 1976
Tammy Thompson, 1993
Cheryl Hammell, 1998
Jenn Christie, 2006
Vanessa Klages, 2011
Tammy Fischer 2011
Council will be giving an endorsement at its next meeting on February 15th.
