Grey Bruce Animal Shelter is seeing success with its PUP-arazzi fundraiser.
The fundraiser, which is in partnership with Studio XX, is being held at the Owen Sound Artist’s Co-op.
The exhibit is a series of head-on portraits of dogs, which are being sold for $100 each.
Fundraising Coordinator Carol Holland says that the reception has been good, with visitors who attended the grand opening happy to take some paintings home.
“It’s been fantastic. In fact, [it’s been so good] at the opening on January 6th, so many paintings were sold that the artists said that they would make a second painting to fill the empty spaces on the wall.”
The paintings are by Studio XX.
She says that it’s their first time working with the studio, and artist Peter John Reid.
“Every year, Studio XX chooses a different charity and the group prepares paintings according to the theme of that charity and then they have a one-month art show,” says Holland. “And so we were just lucky enough to be the chosen group this year.”
The proceeds of the sales will go toward the day-to-day operations at the shelter.
“Our shelter doesn’t get any government funding at all. It’s run entirely by volunteers. We do have a couple of paid supervisors. We also have to buy food and supplies for the animals… Often we get donations, but there are still costs involved.”
The fundraising exhibit runs until January 31st at the Artists Co-op in the Owen Sound River District, at 942 2nd Avenue East.
