The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie has lowered its flags to half-mast to honour the life and memory of former mayor Ron Oswald.
According to his obituary, Oswald passed on January 11th at the age of 91.
Oswald was mayor of Arran-Elderslie for nine years and had a 40-year career in municipal politics.
He was also chosen as warden of Bruce County in 2006.
In 2019, the municipality honoured Oswald and his family by renaming the Chesley Main Street Bridge as the Oswald Bridge.
Oswald’s father, William (Bill) Oswald, was reeve of the town of Elderslie and also served as county warden in 1954.
Before that, his grandfather served the community as a councillor and reeve back in the 1920s.
Oswald is predeceased by his wife Hope, who passed in 2013.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the Chesley Community Centre, and is planned to be followed by a celebration of life from 2:30-4:30.
