Meaford will be looking at awarding a $300,000 contract next week for the replacement of a dock.
Council will consider awarding the tender to fix the D dock at the Meaford Harbour to Kropf Industrial as it has surpassed its useful life.
A report from Director of Financial Services and Treasurer Valerie Manning says the 35-year-old dock houses 44 small and medium-sized boats and needs a full replacement to make sure it is safe to use.
The project includes the removal and disposal of the current dock, as well as the fabrication, supply and installation of its replacement.
The municipality received four bids for the project in August, with Kropf Industrial being the least expensive at $331,306.
As a result of a project scope change, the cost has been reduced to $300,660. This falls within the 2023 capital budget for the project set at $389,000.
The municipality will be using the profits from the harbour from 2023 to 2026 to help pay for the project.
Staff are also proposing fees and charges at the harbour be increased by either two or five per cent. If council moves ahead with a five per cent increase, the additional revenue could pay off the dock in 2025, leaving the revenue generated in 2026 to be used for other capital projects.
Council will consider this tender during its meeting on Jan. 15 at 1 p.m.
