A new survey is being launched to shine a light on the immigrant experience in Grey Bruce.
Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership Manager Deepikaa Gupta says the new survey by the partnership is running until Dec. 31.
“How do we build a more welcoming and inclusive Grey Bruce and how can we work together to make it easier for newcomers to settle here? These are the questions which are at the heart of the Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership,” says Gupta. “To understand the diverse immigrants and their experience in Grey Bruce we launched this survey to understand the experiences and challenges they may face.”
She says the survey aims to learn about the experiences immigrants have had living, working and studying in the region. It will also touch on education, housing, employment, health, belonging, discrimination, community building, and more.
“This research will enable the immigration partnership, which is a collaboration of over 66 member organizations to create the conditions for an immigrant to succeed and help build a welcoming, accepting and inclusive community,” says Gupta.
She says the goal of the survey is to understand newcomers’ experiences when they first arrived in the region, and is not limited to only recent immigrants, as any immigrant in the region can take part.
“All that information provided by immigrants will help us inform how service providers, government at multiple levels, businesses, and the community at large can foster a more welcoming and inclusive space for immigrants and newcomers,” says Gupta.
She says with data provided by Statistics Canada, Grey County currently has an eight per cent immigrant population, while Bruce County is at 7.6 per cent.
