There’s a gift drive on in Port Elgin this weekend.
It’s being conducted by a Saugeen Shores based group called ‘Cause We Can’ through the Bruce County Dorrell Young Christmas program at Three Sheets Brewing.
It’s called the Giv’er Gift Drive. Organizer Steve Duck says “It’s a tight time of year to wake up to an empty tree so we’re sponsoring some families that are part of the Dorrell Young Christmas program.”
He notes Christmas is a particularly difficult time of year, especially for single parents and those who find themselves struggling financially.
Each year, the Bruce County Dorrell Young program provides gifts for roughly 500 local children and also adult members of those households. The program takes about $10,000 a year to run and is entirely dependent on donations.
The event is set for Saturday, December 16th, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Three Sheets Brewing in Port Elgin. There will be music from local artist Amber May, a ‘Wish Tree,’ and door prizes.
