A 40 per cent increase to the price of garbage bag tags in Owen Sound isn’t a done deal yet.
Deputy mayor Scott Greig gave notice he intends to introduce a motion at council’s next meeting on Dec. 18 to reconsider the price hike approved by his colleagues at a budget meeting earlier this month.
In a 5-3 vote at a Dec. 1 meeting, Mayor Ian Boddy, and councillors Jon Farmer, Travis Dodd, Suneet Kukreja and Brock Hamley supported an increase to the price of a garbage bag to $3.50 each in January, up from the current price of $2.50.
Greig wasn’t in attendance. Councillors Carol Merton, Marion Koepke and Melanie Middlebro’ opposed it.
In his notice of motion, Greig says there was no discussion of potential alternatives for reducing future expenditures of waste collection.
