South Bruce Peninsula Council has decided to fill its vacant seat through an appointment process, and they’re calling for applications.
A release from the Town says they’re looking for interested and eligible electors within the community.
Mayor Jay Kirkland says in a statement, “Through this appointment process, we aim to engage our community’s talented individuals, ensuring a fair and equitable representation that upholds the values of transparency, fairness, and inclusivity.”
Eligibility criteria for interested candidates seeking this municipal office must be 18 years of age or older, must be a Canadian citizen, must be a resident of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula, or alternatively, an owner or tenant of land within the town or the spouse of such an owner or tenant. They should not be prohibited from voting under any other Act or disqualified from holding municipal office.
Qualified and interested eligible electors are invited to participate in the appointment process by completing a Letter of Interest form.
Council will provide an opportunity for eligible electors who meet the criteria to briefly address Council during an open meeting before the vacancy is filled, allowing candidates a chance to express their interest and qualifications.
The Town says, “It’s important to note that these forms will exclusively be accepted in person by the Clerk’s Division during regular business hours (8:30 am – 4:30 pm). The deadline is January 4th at 2 p.m.”
They also note, the municipal office will be closed from December 22nd to January 2nd.

The successful appointee is expected to hold office until the end of council’s term in November 2026.
