A funeral will be held tomorrow to celebrate the life of former Southampton Mayor Arthur “Art” Eby, who passed away late last week.
Eby was born and raised in Southampton, he worked for the CNR railway, and trained as an RCMP officer, before going to university and spending most of his career as a geography teacher at Saugeen District Secondary School.
He was also a member of the Southampton Curling Club, where he curled from 1955 to 2019.
He served as president of the Southampton Rotary Club in the early 1980s.
Eby is survived by his wife Christina, daughter Sara, and his grandson Ethan, as well as his sister, brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
According to his obituary, Eby was interested in municipal politics and first served as a councillor, then later as Reeve. He was also honoured to be remembered as the last mayor of Southampton until his passing.
In a statement from Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau, flags in the municipality are being flown at half-mast until Wednesday.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 21st at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Eagleson Funeral Home in Southampton.
