The West Boat Launch and West Harbour Wall areas in Owen Sound will be closed for a couple days this week for the removal of ash tree stumps.
The city says contracted staff will be working on Monday and Tuesday to remove the stumps after 39 emerald ash borer infected trees were removed during the summer, leaving the stumps to be removed in the fall. This comes after the presence of emerald ash borer was found in the city in 2018.
In response to the emerald ash borer infestation, the city developed a management plan in 2014, which attempts to project the impacts of emerald ash borer in Owen Sound and provide direction for a 10-year period.
After the tree stumps are removed, new trees will be planted in the area in 2024.
