The West Grey Fire Department is recognizing local long-serving firefighters.
A ceremony was held at the Durham Fire Station on Oct. 12, which celebrated and recognized the commitment of those who contributed years of service to the local community.
The Exemplary Service Medal Award was presented to those with 20 years of service and the Service Bars is awarded to those at 10-year increments after earning their 20-year medal.
The Govenor General’s Office of Canada presented awards to the following to the following:
-Captain Scott Kuntz, started service in 2001 and received Exemplary Service Medal
-Captain Dave Clark, starting service in 2002 and received Exemplary Service Medal
-Firefighter/Pump Operator Andrew Brown, started service in 2001 and received Exemplary Service Medal
-Firefighter/Former Captain Darrell Peter, started service in 1982 and received a 40-year Service Bar
-Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Hilgendorf, started service in 1982 and received a 40-year Service Bar
Additionally, the Ontario Government, through the Office of the Fire Marshal, honoured the firefighters with the Fire Services Long Service Medal, which is presented to those with 25-years of service. The Service Bars are awarded at five-year increments after earning the 25-year medal.
Awards were presented to the following:
-Captain/Former Deputy Chief Ronald Pfeffer, started service in 1994 and received the 25-year Long Service Medal
-Captain Brian Leisemer, started service in 1988 and received a 25-year Service Bar
-Deputy Chief Kevin Hilgendorf, started service in 1982 and received a 40-year Service Bar
Firefighter/Former Captain Darrell Peter, started service in 1982 and received a 40-year Service Bar.
