Northern Bruce Peninsula is holding off awarding a $1.1 million tender relating to the Lion’s Head Community Centre Redevelopment Project.
Council approved deferring awarding the contract to Ball Construction Ltd. for pre-construction and construction management services during its meeting on Sep. 25.
Coun. Todd Dowd recommended council receive a more thorough report than what was given by Parks and Facilities Manager Mark Coleman.
“For us to make this decision, I think we need more information,” says Dowd. “Just what does all this entail, like a little bit more information on what our construction manager, for that amount of money, what they are going to be doing?”
Planning for the redevelopment of the Lion’s Head Community Centre and Arena started earlier this year, and over the past four months, work has been ongoing to secure a construction management firm.
Requests for proposal were issued in May and three companies submitted bids by the end of June.
The report, however, did not mention the other two companies who submitted bids and Dowd says he would like to see details on those other companies included in a report to come back to council.
Deputy Mayor Rod Anderson says, “we should get that as background info.”
This is the latest after council received a update in June, detailing the bi-weekly meetings with the prime consultant, Salter Pilon.
Several renovations are planned at the arena and community centre, including creating six new dressing rooms accessible to the arena floor level, creating a new multi-purpose room suitable for community presentation and gatherings, creating a new branch library space for the Bruce County Library system, and renovating the existing washrooms/building new washrooms to improve the accessibility for people with disabilities.
CAO Peggy Van Mierlo-West says they can include details on the scope of the work in a follow up report as well as next steps when council approves the tender.
Construction is set to start in April 2024, and has a planned completion date for the end of May in 2025.
