Bruce County has put off making a decision on staff recommendations surrounding the implementation of development charges.
The county has been planning to add the charges as a way to fund future infrastructure projects that would need to be added to keep up with population growth.
The Corporate Services committee accepted staff recommendations outlined in a new report that was presented during the September 21st meeting, which outlined adding the charges through a phased approach.
CAO Derrick Thomson says that there were inconsistencies between the report that was presented during the Corporate Services meeting on September 21st and the bylaw that the committee and council would have passed.
“[The committee should] consider referring this report back to staff so that we have the opportunity to ensure that the bylaw and the recommendation before are succinct as we go through this very important topic.”
The report outlines that the county will collect development charges for services related to a highway, fleet, parks & recreation services, long-term care services, child care and early years programs, and ambulance services.
It also says that the charges would be collected at building permit approval.
The council’s next meeting is October 5th, but there’s no word yet on if the topic of development charges will be included in that meeting.
