The Township of Huron-Kinloss has a new fire truck.
Fire Chief Chris Cleave says the new state-of-the-art truck arrived Monday afternoon.
“The truck came fairly stocked, we have to make a few alterations to it which council approved and we now have a modern, current standard fire pumper that is able to respond to the Lucknow district. The old pumper was 15-years-old which means it was ready for replacement,” says Cleave.
The truck is equipped with the latest in firefighting technology, increased water capacity to battle fires, and enhanced safety to protect firefighters.
Cleave says having the most modernized and up-to-date equipment which meets the current standards is extremely important and the new truck will help protect the community for the next 15 years.
“As technologies change, fire burns differently now with different new home construction. We want pumps that are capable of providing the adequate water flow necessary to combat really hot and fast moving fires,” says Cleave.
Cleave adds the new about $660,000 fire truck received support from the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO), who covered about half of the costs and were present for the delivery.
NWMO Site Director for South Bruce Michael Pahor says, “we are pleased to support the municipality as they announce the acquisition of a critical piece of firefighting equipment. As an organization we prioritize public and employee safety and this investment into lifesaving equipment will help keep residents safe for now and years to come.”
Cleave says there will be about a week or two before the truck will be ready to start service as the fire department will have to train its members to use the vehicle.
