Bruce Power and their supplier partners are donating almost $100,000 to the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario.
The company is donating the money in honour of September being recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
John Peevers, who is the Director of Community and Media Relations for Bruce Power, says that their employees want to give back to the community by supporting important causes.
“It’s really driven by our employees, who are extremely generous and care very much about the communities that they live in and that includes the broader Ontario community, so our employees continue to show great generosity.”
The power company is giving $60,000 as their share of the donation, with their supplier partners providing an additional $37,500.
Peevers says that in addition to POGO’s work with helping families through a cancer diagnosis, they also provide support for province-wide consultations that in turn helped to shape childhood cancer care across Ontario.
He says that as a company, it makes sense to support organizations and health care services, especially since the company recently announced the expansion of their production of medical isotopes lutetium-177 and ytterbium-176.
“We’re extremely proud of the contribution we can make to our healthcare system for the sterilization of single-use medical equipment through the production of medical isotopes, which help to fight cancers.”
Bruce Power also has a partnership with the Brain Tumour Foundation, which the company has been supporting for several years.
POGO was founded in 1983 by a group of pediatric oncologists, whose programs and services have been adopted or modelled across several areas of care.
