The Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health was able to share positive news about COVID at the most recent Board of Health Meeting.
Dr. Ian Arra shared that overall, there was a downward trend for instances of COVID infections throughout Grey and Bruce Counties.
Even with a declining number of positive cases, he says it’s still important to take preventative measures.
“There’s always going to be transmission of COVID; I don’t see it going away. But that’s similar to any other infectious disease that we monitor. We have sets of data on many diseases, but [there’s] the interest in COVID because of the pandemic,” Arra explained to the other board members.
While the topic was under discussion, Arra also said that it’s still important for seniors and those with pre-existing conditions, and those with compromised immune systems to get a booster this fall if possible, but he also says that everyone within vaccine guidelines would benefit as well.
“[As a] general recommendation to the public, if having a booster shot would be similar to the flu [shot], it’s useful for all ages as well.”
During his presentation to the Board of Health, Arra also shared that Grey-Bruce had one of the lowest infection rates currently in the province, but also showed data that demonstrated surrounding municipalities had a higher incidence of infection.
