The Owen Sound Police Service and Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police have now charged two individuals in connection with a homicide in the City of Owen Sound.
Police say, on July 7th, at approximately 11:53 a.m., city police were called to a residence on 2nd Avenue East.
A 47-year-old man was discovered dead in the residence.
Police have now charged 37-year-old Cody Hassard from Owen Sound with:
Second degree murder, pursuant to section 235(1)
Forcible confinement, pursuant to section 279(2) – two counts
Firearms regulations, pursuant to section 86(2)
Point firearm, pursuant to section 87
Knowledge of unauthorized possession, pursuant to section 92(1) -two counts
Firearm or weapon: Possession contrary to Prohibition Order, pursuant to section 117.01(1)
Police have also charged 37-year-old Ashley-Lynn Dykstra of Owen Sound with:
Accessory after fact to murder, pursuant to section 240
Forcible confinement, pursuant to section 279(2) – two counts
Firearm: Unauthorized possession, pursuant to section 91(1)
Firearm: Knowledge of unauthorized possession, pursuant to section 92(1)
Firearm, weapon, ammunition: Careless storage, pursuant to section 86(1)
Firearm or weapon: Possession contrary to Prohibition Order, pursuant to section 117.01(1)
The accused have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
The homicide investigation is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) involving members of the OSPS, OSPS Crime Unit, OPP West Region Crime Unit, OSPS and OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the OPP Regional Support Team (RST), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
