A fire ban is now in place across all of Bruce County.
The county’s fire chiefs declared the ban on all open-air burning effective today (June 1), as the fire danger rating is now extreme in the area.
A statement from Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Chief Jack Burt says fire danger rating levels take into account current and past weather, ease of ignition and other factors that could increase the threat of an open fire.
“We are looking to mitigate the risk of forest fire and would like to like to thank our residents and visitors for adhering to this ban,” Burt says.
All open-air and agricultural burning, and fireworks permits in Bruce County are suspended.
There is an exemption from the fire ban for campfires used for “cooking and warmth only.”
