Owen Sound and Georgian Bluffs have finalized an agreement to allow township residents access to the city’s leaf and yard waste site.
As reported by Bayshore Broadcasting News last week, city and township staff were recommending a partnership that involved Georgian Bluffs paying a $26,000 fee to Owen Sound for access to the 28th Avenue East facility for the remainder of the 2023 season.
The councils of both municipalities endorsed the proposed arrangement at their meetings this week.
“We sincerely appreciate the City of Owen Sound providing this service and partnering with Georgian Bluffs to include our residents at their compost site,” says Georgian Bluffs Mayor Sue Carleton. “As small communities it makes sense to share resources where we can with our neighbours to provide the services that are needed by and important to all residents.”
Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy: “Being collaborative and working together on issues that face us all is valuable. Teaming up with our neighbours is an important example of an innovative and effective way we can work together to benefit both our community and our environment.”
A joint statement issued by Owen Sound and Georgian Bluffs says the agreement comes into effect on Friday.
“Residents are reminded to bring proof of address, such as a driver’s licence or utility bill, when attending the site and to only drop off accepted materials,” the release says.
