Provincial Police continue to appeal for information about the disappearance of a Meaford man, 10 years after he left home and never returned.
According to the OPP, Jonathan (Jon) Riley departed his home on April 26, 2013 and left a handwritten note for his mother explaining he was going to Toronto for a few days. He did not return.
“Investigators have found no evidence to confirm that he ever left the Meaford area,” says OPP Detective Inspector Jennifer Patton in a video update. “However, he was known to spend time in Toronto and in the Ottawa area.”
Riley was 46-years-old when he went missing. He is described as 5-foot-9 tall, weighing about 220 pounds with short brown-grey hair, and brown eyes.
OPP say his family and investigators continue to appeal for any information.
“Jon was loved by his family, who has never given up hope of finding him. Investigators need your help to bring Jon’s family much needed answers to what happened to him,” Patton says.
OPP Detective Const. Matthew Vince says Riley enjoyed hiking the Bruce Trail and frequently carried a green backpack.
“Please keep this in mind if you are hiking the Bruce Trail in the Meaford area this spring,” Vince says in an OPP video about the case. “If you have hiked this area in the past and recall finding something in this area, our investigators would like to hear from you.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment at 519-794-7827 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
