Owen Sound is starting the process to officially rename Kelso Beach Park to Kelso Beach at Nawash Park.
City council approved a recommendation in its consent agenda at Monday night’s meeting to direct staff to initiate the process to re-name a city park in accordance with the city’s policy.
The city has already been referring to the waterfront property on the city’s westside as Kelso Beach at Nawash Park since 2018, but it is still legally registered as Kelso Beach Park as there has been no official name change undertaken yet.
The next step in the process includes city staff preparing a report for the community services committee.
A timeline for the renaming process outlined in a report to council says a working group will make a recommendation to committee in May about proceeding with the Kelso Beach Park name change.
A by-law to officially change the name to Kelso Beach at Nawash Park would come back to council at its June 12 meeting.
Earlier this year, city council approved a new Kelso Beach at Nawash Park Master Plan that includes a series of recommendations to implement at the property over the next decade.
