The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre is focused on expansion in the coming year.
While presenting to County Council during the January 19th budget meeting, Director of Museum and Cultural Services Cathy McGirr spoke to the continuing need for more space.
“While we’ve had a number of delays with this project, the original purpose and need for space remains unchanged. Many areas within collections and archives have already reached capacity, and we expect collections to be full by 2023, and anticipate full capacity within archives by 2025.”
Another theme during her presentation was the return to normalcy following the COVID-19 pandemic, and being able to open to the public once again.
McGirr also talked about their focus on community engagement, saying, “This is a big theme for us always, and in particular, Indigenous relations. We’ll continue the work that we’re doing in these areas, specifically with the Saugeen Ojibwe Nation and also the Historic Saugeen Metis, and in particular, we’re going to be reviewing some of our partnerships with the Bruce County Heritage Association this year as well.”
