A small fire has been extinguished at the Owen Sound hospital.
Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says they responded to the fire just after 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 18 after being notified of a small blaze in the basement of the hospital.
Eagleson adds the fire was contained to a piece of service equipment.
“Hospital staff had located the fire and had it suppressed with a portable extinguisher and crews supported them in that,” says Eagleson.
No injuries were reported and while the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Eagleson says they suspect the fire is a result of a mechanical failure, and did not impact hospital services.
“Hospital staff did a very successful evacuation of the area,” says Eagleson.
He adds they do not have a damage cost estimate as of yet.
Eagleson says the 12 firefighters and the two trucks that responded to the fire were on the scene for about an hour.
