West Grey Police say they responded to 78 calls in their weekly blotter
They responded to six 911 calls, three break-and-enter, two vehicle collisions, 11 calls for information or assistance, five domestic disputes, two ambulance/fire assistance calls, one disturb the peace all and four Mental Health Act calls, one call about a suspicious person, two theft investigations, three animal complaints, four traffic hazards, one unwanted person, two missing persons, and four abandoned or recovered vehicles.
Of note, police say, on January 6th, they became involved in a sexual assault investigation.
They say as a result of the investigation a 44-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with multiple Criminal Code offences in relation to this matter.
Police say no other information will be released to protect the victim(s). They note, their investigation is ongoing.
In a different investigation, on January 10th, West Grey Police were called to a suspicious person on Garafraxa Street South, Durham. They say officers located a female suspect who is known to police. As a result of investigation a 29-year-old female of no fixed address was arrested and has been charged with two counts of break and enter, as well as possession of property obtained by crime, possession of crystal meth and failing to comply with a probation order.
Police also provided an update about a recent arrest, saying in December of 2022, officers arrested a 55-year old man following a weapons / firearms incident in Normanby Township – West Grey Township. Police say, as a result of further investigation nine additional firearms have been seized. The accused who is currently held in custody is now further charged with:
Possession of Firearm contrary to Prohibition Order (10 Counts)
Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (8 Counts)
Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Weapon with ammunition
Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Police say the accused remains in custody.
