Porch pirates are plundering the steps of homes in Saugeen Shores and police are advising you to take measures to avoid having your packages fall victim to theft.
Police say residents should consider installing a doorbell camera or small CCTV system at the front of the house, as cameras with motion detectors are able to alert residents of any potential thieves and help notify when packages are delivered.
Police also advise to leave a storage container at the front of the house for packages to be put inside, outside the direct view of potential theives.
Residents can also leave specific instructions for their deliveries, and possibly have them put at the back or side of the home away from street view.
Police say residents can talk to their neighbours and make plans to assist each other and hold on to each other’s packages if the other is not home.
Police are also advising to purchase insurance as a precaution.
To the thieves, Saugeen Shores Police also shared a message: “When we find you, you will be charged. Don’t take things that don’t belong to you.”
