Georgian Bluffs has filled its vacancy on the council table.
Township council approved a staff recommendation at a special meeting on Tuesday to appoint Isaac Shouldice to the seat left vacant by Mike Smith, who resigned from the position for health reasons shortly after the Oct. 24 municipal election.
Council had options to either fill the seat by appointment or call a by-election. They decided unanimously to support the staff recommendation to appoint Shouldice, who received the next highest amount of votes among councillor candidates in last month’s election.
“I have had a very brief conversation with candidate Shouldice, and he is very excited to hold the role and still very much interested,” Georgian Bluffs Clerk and Director of Corporate Services Brittany Drury says.
A by-law needs to be passed by council at its next meeting in December to formalize the appointment.
