Bruce Power is being recognized as one of Canada’s best employers for diversity.
Bruce Power says this award from Forbes, which publishes numerous lists including ranking billionaires, and colleges, comes following a Stratista survey of more than 10,000 professionals working for companies with a minimum of 500 employees.
The employees were asked to give their opinions on a series of statements regarding age, gender, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQIA+ and general diversity in the workplace.
Bruce Power Human Resources Executive Vice-President Cathy Sprague says they are proud of what they have been able to accomplish, but recognizes there is more they can do.
Bruce Power says it has made a commitment to promote the value of diversity and inclusion in their organizations as a signatory of the Leadership Accord on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the electricity industry. The accord provides a platform to create a culture of equity and inclusion, while facilitating opportunities for underrepresented groups and to support women into traditionally male dominated roles.
The company says it has focused on increasing Indigenous employment and creating economic opportunities within the communities, as this year it launched an Indigenous Leadership Development Program to provide growth opportunities to Indigenous employees.
In addition, the company signed the BlackNorth Initiative in 2020 and has held educational community events and provided resources to local school and libraries which support Black cultural awareness and history, and has also supported local pride events and parades.
“We continue to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in our workplace and in our communities because fairness and belonging is important to all people, no matter our differences,” says Sprague.
