A wooden bridge along the Bruce County Rail trail near Paisley that was heavily damaged in a fire is going to be repaired this summer.
Bruce County has awarded a contract to Looby Builders (Dublin) to undertake repairs to the Willow Creek Trestle Bridge. It suffered extensive damage in a June 2021 blaze that was considered suspicious in nature.
The bridge’s burned-out beams, railings and deckings will be fixed this summer.
The project is expected to be completed by October.
Bruce County had budgeted $625,000 for the bridge repair project in its capital plan.
Bayshore Broadcasting News made an inquiry to the county to ask the value of the awarded contract for the repair work, but did not receive the information by publication time.
The county was granted funding through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund to finance part of the cost.
The rail trail has been closed between Victoria Street in Paisley and the Bruce-Greenock North Road since the Willow Creek Trestle Bridge fire.
